Youth Arts & Sciences Exhibition

Greetings unto all our young aspiring Artisans of the Known World, and to their parents/caregivers, from Mistress Safia al-Khansaa', Coordinator of the third annual Youth Arts and Sciences Exhibition!

The Exhibition is an absolutely WONDERFUL opportunity for our youth to share their creative endeavors! It gives children of all ages a chance to shine as artists and craftspeople in their own right, and to learn and grow within the Arts and Sciences community of the Society. By having their very own exhibition, our youth have the chance to stand out and be recognized by Peers, Royalty, and the entire Populace, in a supportive, nurturing, and educational environment.

Youth artisans of all Kingdoms and ages, through the age of 17, are invited to showcase their projects. There will also be an area for the youth to share their talents in the performance arts.

This will be the 3rd year for the Exhibition, and we can’t wait to once again see the incredible work and talents of our young artisans of the Known World! As an artist myself, I have found few things more inspiring than to see our young people picking up the torch of creative passion and carrying it on into future generations.

I look forward to once again meeting all of our wonderful, talented youth at the Exhibition, as well as meeting their parents and/or caregivers, and seeing the results of their outstanding artistic efforts!

Times

The Exhibition will take place on Monday, August 4th.

8:00 am - 9:00 am	Drop-off entries
9:00 am - noon	Exhibition open to the public
noon - 1 pm	Pick-up entries (Entries not picked up will be turned over to Lost and Found and can be retrieved there.)

Registration

All children displaying are requested to fill out one form per item to be displayed.
There is a limit of 3 items per child.
It is important that the child be encouraged to fill out as much of the form as possible on their own, in their own words.
To accomplish this, there are several different versions of the form, that have been written according to age/grade level. The form will provide basic information for each item displayed, including some space for documentation.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. This will give us an idea of how many children are participating, as well as the space required. This will also save parents time on the day of the Exhibition, and hopefully make things a little easier for you and your child.

On-line pre-registration:
You can register on-line through July 18th. Please select a form based on which grade your child completed before Pennsic:
Pre-K through 2nd grade
3rd - 5th grade
6th - 8th grade
9th - 12th grade

While registering on-line, please allow your child to participate in the process. Make sure that the information you provide is in their own words, as much as possible.

On-site pre-registration:
Those children who did not have their parents pre-register them on-line can do so by filling out a form and dropping it off at Youth Point prior to the day of the Exhibit. Just stop by Youth Point several days before and pick up a form. Forms will also be available at A&S Point.

Those who register on-line or on-site will be served with a special Express Check-in Line on the day of the exhibit.

At-the-door registration:
Anyone signing up on the day of the exhibit will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis, as space allows.

Supervision

No programs, activities, or events taking place at Pennsic War are intended as a substitute for the proper adult supervision of minors. This includes the Youth Arts and Sciences Exhibition.

A parent or court-appointed guardian must accompany their child while she/he attends the Exhibition. Please plan accordingly.

Display space

Tables will be provided for the exhibition. Space limitations in the Youth Tent will require youth artisans to share table space.
There will be a table space limit of 4 square feet (2'x2') for each artisan. There is a limit of 3 items per child, and these must fit within the designated space. If the child's work requires a larger space a table may be brought for their work, however, space is VERY LIMITED, so please be prepared for the possibility that there may not be room.
Please bring your own stands, easels, dress forms, tablecloths and other methods to display your work to its best advantage. Again, since this Exhibition is taking place in the Youth Tent rather than the Barn, space is much more limited. Please keep this in mind when helping your child plan her/his display.
Children displaying garb have the option of wearing the outfit, in order to display the garments properly. This is strongly encouraged as it will help conserve space and show the garb in its proper context.
Children have the option of staying throughout the duration of the exhibition, or they may leave. Parents or legal caregivers MUST supervise their child at all times. The children are allowed to "take breaks," and leave for a while, get a drink, etc. The exhibition is right next to the playground, and children will be allowed to go out and play for a while if they choose. This is strongly encouraged for younger children especially. Children and parents who would like to stay with their displays for the exhibition are encouraged to bring chairs. Please prepare for the possibility of inclement weather when helping your child to plan her/his display, in order to protect their work.
