Pennsic University Frequently Asked Questions
These are questions that have come up in the course of working with
Teachers in setting up classes. If you have a question, feel free to

- Do you really mean "No Limits" when it comes to class size?

YES. Even if you requested a limit, for whatever reason, we cannot
stop people from coming to your class. And we lack the manpower to do
so; if we do it for one, we'll have to do it for 100.
We are looking into ways to streamline the process.
- How much can I charge for classes?

Like other Pennsic classes, teachers are volunteers – you cannot
charge for your time or labor in classes. Materials, including
handouts, can be charged a "fair value" for to students. In other
words, you may never charge for a student to attend a class, but you
may ask for a fair, non-labor cost fee for materials and handouts the
students uses in that class.

Will Pennsic Management reimburse me for my time, travel fees, or
other expenses? Or pay a honorarium?

We simply lack the funds to pay anyone, and to pay one person
would set a precedent that would be difficult, to say the least. So
no, no funds will be given to teachers or students by Pennsic
University.
- Can Pennsic University aid me in making copies of my work?
- Legal issues aside, we don't have the capacity to copy works. If
we copy one, we have to offer to copy all, and
that would take resources that Pennsic just doesn't have,
and an overwhelming amount of time from volunteers who like to
have fun at Pennsic, as much as you do.
- I want to teach a class during a number of wildly varying times. How
do I tell you this?

Simply put it in the "other comments" box under "Special Needs",
near the bottom of the Form page. A format such as:
works well for showing us what we need to note.
- Does Pennsic University have teaching equipment (Writing implements,
paper, chalk or whiteboards, projectors, etc.)?
- We are highly limited in that respect. We have a limited number of
whiteboards, and that's about it. If a teacher wishes to bring
projectors and other electrical equipment, they are welcome to request
it via the "Special Needs" section of the teacher form. (Also see the
"Can I use electrical equipment?" question.)
- Can I use electrical equipment at Pennsic University?
- We do have ways of getting electricity to a tent in which you
are teaching in many cases, if you request it via the "Special Needs" section
of the Teacher Registration Form. However, it is strongly recommended
that teachers find a "period" method of sharing visual information.
Among other issues, if the power goes out, Pennsic University staff
can do nothing to aid you in the disruption of your class.
