The Pennsic Choir

Welcome to the Known World Choir at Pennsic, also known as the Pennsic Choir!

This year the Choir will be directed by Master Robyn Solarius of the Middle Kingdom. A long-time Early Music fan and performer, he has sung in and directed a variety of choruses in the Barony of the Cleftlands.

What is the Known World Choir?

The Known World Choir (KWC) is a group of people from across the Kingdoms of the SCA who love to sing a cappella choral music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Singers gather, rehearse and perform at major SCA wars like Estrella, Lilies, and Pennsic. To stayed informed about the activities of the Known World Choir, and to access the music for the Pennsic Choir, join our Yahoo Group at groups.yahoo.com/group/KWChoir. You must have or sign up for a free Yahoo ID to join this online email list.

Singing in the Pennsic Choir is an intense and rewarding experience. We rehearse 2 hours each day for 6 days, then perform a concert on the final Thursday of War week.

You don’t need to be an expert musician to sing in the Pennsic Choir, but you should be able to carry a tune (preferably without a bucket!) and maintain a rhythm. The ability to read music and sight-sing is extremely helpful but not required if you are willing to put in the effort to learn the music in advance. To facilitate this, the music for Pennsic 39 is available online in MIDI format as well as PDF from the Known World Choir Yahoo Group webpage or by postal mail from the director. It also helps to attend as many rehearsals as possible.
