Battlefield
Marshals
Description: Marshalling the War Point battles to keep the participants and spectators safe.
Requirements: must be a Marshal.
During battles with combat archery, must wear protective shatterproof eyewear (as per Society Marshal's Handbook).
Set up and Clean up
It takes, on average, 250-300 man-hours over two weeks for the Battlefield to be set-up, repositioned for each
War Point, and torn down. Please consider volunteering some of your time. It is not all strenuous work,
and the more people we have, the less difficult it becomes.
Waterbearers
Please come see us at Marshals' Point, or on the field. You can also contact the Deputy Mayor of Martial
Activities , Viscondessa Isabella, before Pennsic.
Disability Services
If you would like to volunteer to drive the Mobility Assistance Cart,
please go to the Watch tent to meet with the Transportation Coordinator, fill out a waiver and select a shift.
Interpreters who wish to volunteer their services should contact Disability Services
with their availability (via e-mail before Pennsic, or visit us at Disability Point in Town Hall).
On-site contact information should include: Name, Block Number, Nearest Intersection, and Group Name.
First Aid Point
If you are a warranted Chirurgeon and would like to volunteer: please stop by with the required paperwork (first aid/CPR certs, proof of SCA membership, legal ID) and we'll get you up and running.
If you are not a warranted Chirurgeon, but would like to become one: you will need the appropriate first aid/CPR certs, proof of SCA membership, legal ID and the approval of your Kingdom Chirurgeon or his/her designee. Chirurgeons-in-Training who are already listed on their Kingdom's roster may work shifts at Point under the supervision of a warranted Chirurgeon.
If you are not a warranted Chirurgeon and would like to work as a non-medical volunteer (assist with record keeping, supply inventory, housekeeping, and other tasks), please stop in.
More details at the First Aid webpage.
Games Tent
If you would like to help us run the Games Tent, teach classes, or organize tournaments, please
contact Michel before Pennsic, or come by the tent at Pennsic and sign up.
You can also join us on our
Pennsic Games Yahoo Group.
Heralds' Point
Volunteers of all kinds are always needed! We have several opportunities for volunteers, some of which require no prior experience or heraldic experience, such as
greeters , artists , and colorers . For the detail-oriented, we are happy to train on our internal processes and administrative work.
Come by any time we're open to volunteer for these needs!
As always, we need heralds who can consult on names or armory. We have many books and other resources (including senior heralds you can learn from!).
The Rules changed significantly this spring, and we will hold daily training classes on the new Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory. We will also hold daily training classes on our new submissions data entry program.
These classes will be required for consulting heralds this year, so please come by Heralds' Point early in the War to get trained up so that you can consult. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis for heralds who have had training prior to War.
Contact:
Lady Marie de Blois , Heralds' Point coordinator before Pennsic, or stop by Heralds' Point to volunteer.
Lost & Found
The Lost and Found tent welcomes volunteers!
Our hours are 10am to 5pm each day; and 8am to noon on the final Sunday.
Volunteers are needed for 2 hour shifts, with 2-3 people on each shift.
Teenagers (13-18) are welcome to volunteer alongside their parent(s).
We plan to make Lost & Found the happiest place to volunteer!
We offer a shady place to sit, snacks and assorted flavors of K-cup coffee, and an electric fan to keep you cool!
Stop by Lost & Found Point (at the corner of Brewer's Road and Dragon Trace, across from Troll) to sign up for a shift.
Pennsic University - University Point
We strongly encourage volunteers to become part of the Pennsic University team.
We have lots of work to do before and during Pennsic, and many hands make light(er) work.
Shifts: 2 hour shifts, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, August 1st through 9th. On August 10th shifts run from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Positions:
Four people are needed for each shift:
University Point desk staff - 2 per shift, to answer questions and assist students in finding classes.
Pennsic University Ambassadors - 2 per shift, to rove around the University area providing directions,
along with some other duties around the University.
Scheduling:
For your convenience, we are trying out an on-line volunteer scheduling
system this year.
When registering, you do not need to give us any more information than your SCA name (just put it in the name fields) and your
email address. All other information is optional. You will be able to schedule your own shifts, change your schedule on-line
up to the time Pennsic starts (after that it will be at University Point), opt into email reminders of your schedule, and
see instantly and in real time what shifts are taken or available each day.
If, for some reason, you do not wish to register with the volunteer site (though we strongly recommend using it;
your privacy will be completely protected) check the
volunteer schedule
and then
sign up for shifts by email .
Please state the positions, days and times you wish to work and you will be scheduled appropriately.
You may also wait until Pennsic and sign up for any still available shifts on site at University Point any time it is open.
Performing Arts
The five areas where we are seeking volunteers are:
Set-up –
Tuesday of Land Grab Week, we put in place the stage, the curtains, the lights, and the chairs. This starts at about 10 am and goes until we are done.
Come help us make the tent into a theater worthy of the name! Bring your cordless drills. On Wednesday we set up the Amphitheater.
Open-up –
Every day , activities at the Performing Arts Pavilion begin at 8:30 am. We need someone each morning around 8am to help open up our walls. If you are an early riser and your camp is not, have we got a job for you!
Water –
Both the Performing Arts Pavilion and the Amphitheater have water coolers for the convenience of performers and audiences. These need to be filled every day. If you want to volunteer and only have 5-10 minutes to do so, we can use your help!
Light Board Operator / Light Board Operator Second –
To sit during the shows with the light board to bring up stage lights and house lights, keep things running smoothly between front of house and back stage, and help announce shows as needed. Split shifts are available;
email us for more information.
Clean-up –
Thursday night of War week, after the final scheduled performance (about 10:45 pm), we will break down everything.
Again, bring your cordless drills. This will continue on Friday morning from 10 am until we are finished.
On Friday we also break down the Amphitheater.
To volunteer, please email us with: which task you are volunteering for and a selection of days when you are available. If you have a preference to help in the Amphitheater or the PAP, please note that! We will put you on the schedule and email you a confirmation.
We would also like to remind our performers that they agreed during the application process to supply two (2) volunteers for the performing arts venues.
Troll (Check-in)
Troll needs people to work as greeters, and behind the counter. We really need the most help during the first (Land Grab)
and middle (War) weekends.
Shifts: two hour shifts starting noon, Friday July 27th, ending 11:59 pm, Friday August 10th.
Greeters - (Teen volunteers are welcome!)

also: putting together booklets, and cutting string for tokens.

We need volunteers to cry the camp in the mornings and evenings. All volunteers are welcome - you do not have to be an SCA Herald!
We also need people who can work desk shifts at the Town Crier Table.
The Town Crier Table is located in the Town Hall Tent across from the Camp Store ('Info Point' on the map).
There will be a signup log at the Table, or contact Celestia and Finar before Pennsic to sign up.

As always, we are looking for volunteers to staff The Watch. We welcome your help in this endeavor.
