Rapier Activity Descriptions

Thursday, August 2

Early Bird Tourney

Time: 10 am. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC's: Warder Maximilian der Zauberer & Warder Martyn Baxter. Pennsic rules will apply.

Pick fights, take names and get acquainted. The purpose of this tourney isn't to win the most bouts, but to find the most interesting facts about your opponents. “MORE TALK! LESS FIGHTING!” Who will the MICs give the bird to this year?

Friday, August 3

Rapier Bear Pit Poker Tourney

Time: 11 am. Duration: 3 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Lord Ælfwine Pyttel. Pennsic rules apply.

This is a bear pit style format where the loser of the bout stays to fight the next fencer. Fencers stay until they win or have 3 deaths. Double kills count towards the number of deaths. Fencers leaving the pit shall receive a playing card and shall keep up to 7 cards. The winner of the Tournament shall be determined by the best Poker hand of 5 cards. Weapon format will be Heavy Rapier and Society Rapier Rules default

Saturday, August 4

The Storming of La Rochelle

Time 9:30. Duration: 2.5 hours. Location: Castle. MIC: Warder Uadahlrich von Sassmannshausen, OP. Pennsic rules apply.

The defenders of La Rochelle WILL die! The only question is, WHEN? Join us at the Fort to find out. Heavy rapier and rubber band gun melee. Attackers will have unlimited resurrections, defenders will have limited resurrections. RBG cannon are welcome. No archery please. Pennsic standard rules for rapier apply. Don't have a heavy rapier? Bring a dagger or two. Bring a friend or 20. The more the merrier. Don't like to fight melee? Come and get close to the action and help marshal the battle. Please muster AT THE FORT 1/2 half hour before the start time, especially if you want to fight along with a particular group. Time permitting, we will let the holders of all the assembled kingdoms' and principalities' highest award for rapier, and kingdom and principality rapier champions, see how long they can hold out against the Known World! Always a fan favourite.

The GreyBeard Tourney

Time: 2 pm. Duration: 2hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Lord Alric the Mad. Pennsic Rules Apply

A fight for us old guys, and gals. Come prove you still have it after all these years. Entry limited to those who have turned fifty years old as of the day of the tournament. Lay on will be called within 10 minutes of the start time on the schedule, don't be late or don't participate. Format to be determined, we may do a Bedford points tournament this year. C&T will be allowed upon the agreement of both fighters.

C&T Tourney

Time: 4 pm. Duration: 1.5 hours. Location: Rapier Lists. MIC: Lord Alric the Mad. Pennsic Rules Apply

Something for you lovers of Cut and Thrust. Come join us and play the old fashioned way!

Sunday August 5

Rapier Champions – WAR POINT - 2 pts

To be held in front of the Royal Pavilions located on the South side of the field.

MIC's: Don Caine Ramsey and Warder Colin Macnish. Pennsic rules will apply.

Come witness this historic meeting of Champions, as the Known World's finest fencers face off against each other. Forty combatants from each side shall meet one on one in single elimination bouts to determine victory.

Monday August 6

Rapier Town Battle – WAR POINT - 2 pts

Time: 10 am. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Battlefield. MIC's: Don Caine Ramsey and Warder Colin Macnish. Pennsic rules will apply.

The Town Battle promises to be full of fun and excitement this year. Each side will set out to retrieve all 9 items secured throughout the town and return them to a secure location. Victory in each scenario will be determined by the side that controls more than half the items at one time. I.e..5 out of 9. If a fencer is killed while carrying and item. The item must be dropped where the combatant was killed.

This battle will be run 5 times, with the winner of 3 or more of those times carrying the day, and the war points. There will be no death from behind. This is a non timed resurrection battle. Standard Pennsic rules apply.

By the Book Tourney

Time: 1:30 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Don Orlando Sforza. Pennsic rules will apply/

A historical fencing tourney, Memorize your Marozzo, review your Ridolfo and study your Saviolo, for the third annual tournament where book worms can be winners! Period fencing forms and period dress as seen in the manuals will bring you success.

As always, lavish prizes will be bestowed upon the competitor with the most wins, the best dressed, and the one who best adheres to the style of a given master.

Tortuga

Time: 3:00 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC:Bear. Pennsic rules will apply.

An annual favorite. Are a pirate or a merchant? Come indulge yourself and display some fancy footwork as you walk the plank. YAR!!!!!!!!

Tuesday August 7

Rapier Terrain Battle - WAR POINT - 2 pts

Time: 10 am. Duration: 1 hour. Location: Battlefield. MIC's: Don Caine Ramsey and Warder Colin Macnish. Pennsic rules will apply.

This battle will be fought within the hay bales (or mostly within) of armored bridges. There will be three flags down middle line of battle field placed by marshals in charge. There will be a left flag located within a building. The building will be constructed out of an existing bridge, so will be 27 feet wide by 30 feet long. There will be two doors in the building that are created by removing single hay bales.

There will be a center flag – will be located within a broken field. There will be a Right flag – will be located in an open field. The battle will be 1 hour resurrection. There will be time checks every twenty minutes for a total of three checks (20, 40, and 60 minutes). Checks will be performed by the Marshalls, and fighting need not be stopped in order for the check to be performed. Victory conditions are possession of two out of three flags at each time point. Best two out of three time points, gets both war points. Possession is determined by the color of the flag. If no flag is up when the cannon goes off, all combatants within nine feet of the flag will fight to the last man. The nine foot circle will be pre-marked on the ground before the battle begins.

Don/Doña Tourney

Time: 1:30 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: The Honorable Lord Owynn Greenwood. Pennsic rules will apply.

This tournament will be open to those who have a kingdom's highest award for rapier. This includes the Order of the White Scarf, Order of the Bronze Ring, Order of the Golden Rapier, The Dragons Steel, The Order of Thorbjorn's Hammer, The Order of the Queen's Blade, and The Meridian Order of the Blade or equivalent award.

The Revenge Tourney

Time: 3:30 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: , Lady Azriel Le Fey. Pennsic rules will apply.

Come get your fill of REVENGE! Bring your best to this round robin tourney. Each person gets ONE revenge challenge fight to someone they LOST to in each tier (tiers will depend on number of people in tourney - there will most likely be two tiers)

Revenge challenges must be fought AFTER they have fought everyone in the pool/ group

Wednesday August 8

Atlantian 5-Man Melee Tournament

Time: 10 am. Duration: 3-4 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Don Argylle Buchanan. Atlantian rules apply.

An annual tradition. Bring your best 5 man team fencing team and compete against the known world. Each team is limited to 2 martial high orders per team. High orders include, and are not limited to any kingdoms highest fencing award, Chivalry, and Sagittarius.

Max and Connor's Carnage Games

Time: 1:30 ish. Duration: 4-5 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Don Connor Levingstoune.

This is a chance for everyone to round out the day with tons and tons of fighting. There is no "scheduled set of activities" as it will all depend on who is there and what we will want to do. We guarantee that you'll have more fighting than you know what to do with. Limited teaching... unless you personally request it. No prizes. No drama. No egos (bigger than ours).

The entire time will be spent playing Melee (and Solo) rapier games.

Zen Warrior Known World Ladies Championship Qualifier

Time: 3:30 pm. Duration: 1.5 hours. Location: Rapier Lists. MIC: Baron Don Joseph Blayde. Pennsic Rules apply.

To all ladies of the Known World: Welcome to the Zen Warrior Ladies Championship Series to be held at Great Western War, Gulf Wars and Pennsic War each year. The format is a round-robin with as many pools as necessary. Weapons are bring what you will within SCA rules. The top 8 finishers in the pools qualify for the Known World Ladies Championship - Finals to be held later in the week. The top 8 finishers in the pools also compete for several very nice prizes for first through third place donated by Zen Warrior and The Black Tiger Rapier Academie. The final eight will compete in a single elimination format to determine the Pennsic Ladies Champion.

Known World Baronial Rapier Challenge

Time: 4:00 pm. Duration: 1-2 hours. Location: Rapier Lists. MIC: Warder Maximillian. Pennsic Rules apply.

A tournament displaying the finest displays of chivalry, pageantry, and knowledge between baronial champions for the entertainment of Their Excellencies and the gallery. Participants must be the current rapier champion of their barony.

Thursday August 9

Rapier Field Battle – WAR POINT - 2pts

Time: 10 am. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Battle Field. MIC's: Don Caine Ramsey and Warder Colin Macnish. Pennsic rules will apply.

This battle will be fought North/South, with Mid/East Axis starting on the South side and Atlantia/Aethelmearc and Allies starting on the North side, in an area 600*400. This last man standing battle , will be run up to 5 times, with 15 minute breaks between battles. Death from behind will be allowed. The side that wins 3 out of 5 of the battles will win the war points. Victory for a side is determined by the last man standing.

Ansteorran Rapier Tourney

Time: 12 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. Pennsic rules will apply

Your host Queen Elizabeta invites you to join her for the Ansteorran Rapier Tourney. This will be a standard Double Elimination. Double kills to be re-fought once only. Please learn to parry! :-)

Cadet Tourney

Time: 1:00 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: The Honorable Lord Owynn Greenwood. Pennsic rules will apply.

This tournament will be open to those who are sponsored by a person who has a kingdom's highest award for rapier. This includes the Order of the White Scarf, Order of the Bronze Ring, Order of the Golden Rapier, The Dragons Steel, The Order of Thorbjorn's Hammer, The Order of the Queen's Blade, and The Meridian Order of the Blade or equivalent awards.

Atlantian Free Scholar Tourney

Time: 3:30 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC's: MICs Arghylle Buchanan & Alric the Mad. Atlantian rules will apply.

Bring your Best and Bring your heart. As this is a charity tournament to raise money to donate to the breast cancer charity of the winner and second place of their choice. Format and specifics will be determined based on turnout.

Friday August 10

Rapier Woods Battle – WAR POINT – 2 pts

Time: 10 am. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Woods. MIC's: Don Caine Ramsey and Warder Colin Macnish. Pennsic rules will apply.

This 1 hour resurrection battle will be fought in the woods. There will be time checks every twenty minutes for a total of three time checks (20, 40 and 60 minutes post cannon). The number and placement of banners is to be determined by the Rapier Commanders of the Mid/East/Aethelmearc/Atlantia. Banners will be stationary. There will be death from behind. Victory Conditions are to be determined.

Æthelmearc Novice Tournament

Time: 1:30 pm. Duration: 2 hours. Location: Rapier List. MIC: Lord Po Silvertop. Æthelmearc rules apply.

This tournament is open to any authorized rapier combatant with less than three years from their first rapier authorization, who has never received an award at the Kingdom level for rapier prowess and who has never won a rapier tourney at a published SCA event. The tourney will be run as a multiple-bearpits tourney (Both Light and Heavy Rapier will be permitted.) Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Light and Heavy lists.

Zen Warrior Known World Ladies Championship Finals

Time: 3:30 pm. Duration: 1.5 hours. Location: Rapier Lists. MIC: Baron Don Joseph Blayde. Pennsic Rules apply.

A hearty welcome, to all the ladies who qualified at Gulf Wars and Pennsic to the Zen Warrior Ladies Championship Tournament - Finals. This is a closed tournament for all the ladies who qualified at Gulf Wars and earlier in the week here at Pennsic. The format will be round-robin with the top four finishers competing in a single-elimination to determine the champion. Weapons are bring what you will within SCA rules. Prizes will be awarded to first through third place donated by Zen Warrior and The Black Tiger Rapier Academie.

Pennsic War is an annual event between the East and Middle Kingdoms of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., and takes place within the Kingdom of Æthelmearc at Coopers' Lake Campground.
