Guidelines for Commercial Filming at Pennsic
The guidelines for commercial filming at Pennsic are for all types of commercial photography, documentary and entertainment filmmaking. They do not apply to news media.
The Pennsic War is a private event for members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., and their guests. No part of the event is open to the public for entertainment purposes. For background information on the SCA, please go to
www.sca.org before submitting your request to film.
We do welcome commercial media to visit and film at Pennsic on a limited basis for the purpose of introducing our organization to possible interested future members. With that understanding, we have created the following procedures and policies to safeguard our membersí and participantsí privacy.
Media guests are permitted on site from the hours of 9am to 5pm (special extensions may be granted on the Wednesday evening of Midnight Madness or if there is a fireworks display). Media will be escorted by a representative of the media liaison staff at all times while on site. Filming is limited to official event activities listed in the official Pennsic schedule.
All requests to film/shoot/write about Pennsic must be in writing. (Email is completely acceptable and preferred.)
Applications must be received by the Media Liaison no later than July 5, 2012 to be considered.
Proposals must include:
A description of your project
The dates you would like to visit
A proposed list of subjects you would like to shoot
A description of the end use of the project (sale of DVD by website, sale of completed piece to a distributor, use in X publication etc.)
A description of your target audience. (Viewers of local cable channel, readers of AARP magazine, etc)
A professional CV listing your credentials or links to your organizationís website for verification of professional identity.
All proposals national or international in nature will be passed on to the SCA Board of Directors for review and approval.
If accepted, site liability insurance must be provided.
No scaffolding, boom mikes, track cameras or spotlights are permitted. No crew trailers, RVís or equipment trucks are permitted on site. Camera crews are not permitted to film from within restricted battle areas. No filming in private encampments or of private parties or entertainments is permitted.
