Pennsic Teacher Registration Help

Thank you for registering with Pennsic University!

This guide will aid you in filling out the Teacher Registration form as quickly and easily as possible.

Please feel free to e-mail the Chancellor of the University or the Registrar if you have questions or issues.

Here's the summary of what you'll need to fill out in order to register your class(es):

You should know the answers to all these questions before going on-line to fill out your Teaching Request.

Teacher Information ("About You")

The top part of the form covers you, the teacher, and is our way of identifying you.

Your e-mail address is very important; without a correct, working e-mail you'll never get any of our information on the class, including when it's scheduled. Worse, your class(es) could be outright rejected! So check it, and please make sure it's right.

Modern and SCA names are nearly as important. If you don't use an SCA name, just put your modern name in the "SCA Name" box.

Please use titles you've earned in SCA contexts (Royal awards).

Similarly, please use the Kingdom of your current residence, or that you play the most in -- and if you don't know what that is, feel free to ignore that box.

A phone number helps us communicate with you if your e-mail address is not functioning, or if a last-minute change is needed. An "On site" Phone number allows us to contact you at Pennsic in case there is some issue that you shoudl be aware of, such as changes to tent assignment, scheduling conflict, or emergency closure. We fervently hope we shall not need to use it. Please be assured that if you give it, any such data will be kept in strictest confidence.

The University normally keeps a contact list available as a resource for students and other querents who may wish more information about your class. Please let us know by checking your preferences if you wish to be listed in this resource

Main Class Information ("About the Class" Part I)

This section is critical -- class registrations may be returned and/or voided if not filled out correctly.

Please run your text for the title and class description through a spell checker, and read through it for grammatical and factual errors before submitting. While you can submit a longer description to appear in the schedule on the Pennsic website, the summary of your class for the Pennsic book should be 250 characters or less.

If you are listing co-teachers, please put a comma between each name.

Private Camps/Merchant Booths and Age Ranges ("About the Class" Part II)

As most folks know, Pennsic University has no limits on the students attending a class. The limits here are for safety and for ease of use.

There are camps that regularly allow and encourage classes, and Pennsic University allows their use as long as all parties understand that the Pennsic University staff has no responsibility or liability for classes taught in camps or at merchant booths. Along those lines, if a class has traditionally been taught in a private camp/merchant booth, the University considers that sufficient reason to continue that tradition until and unless a new situation arises.

Classes targeted at students under 18 years of age MAY NOT be scheduled in Private Camps or Merchant Booths. Minors attending classes of any type in a private camp must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Teachers must be understanding and reliable regarding under-18 children in their class. If you as the instructor think any sort of trouble will arise in your camp due to the presence of minors, you are strongly encouraged to restrict your class.

Materials and Fees ("About the Class" Part III)

Pennsic strongly upholds the grand SCA tradition of volunteer teaching. This means "fees" are for the cost of items you provide for your students – handouts and other educational materials, as well materials or items students may need to use. Teachers may not charge a fee for their time. Moreover, Pennsic University has neither the personnel nor the equipment to provide copying or other services related to these activities, even for payment.

In the "Itemization of Fees" section, simply list precisely what the students get for their money. This makes it crystal clear what is required to take the class. If there are additional items the student is expected to provide/bring, please include them in the class description as well.

Requesting your days to teach ("Teaching Days")

Select the date(s) and timeframe that work best for you. We'll do our best to put the class in or near that slot.

If you wish to teach a subject more than once; check off all the days you're available to teach, and the total number of sessions you'd like to schedule.

If you wish to teach at different times on different days, note the days & times under the "Additional information" box below.

"Special Needs"

If you have specific needs for your class area, please indicate so here.

Please note that the use of heat sources is  highly limited and regulated.

Submission and The Next Class Request

When you click the "Send Class Form" button, it sends an email to you (if you provided the correct email address!) and also presents a page you can save or print for your records. To do another class, just hit the Back button on your web browser, change the form as needed, and re-submit.

Easy!

Again, thank you so much for offering to teach! We look forward to thanking you in person at the War.
