Disability Services

Gentles with disabilities are welcome to participate at Pennsic War!

Disability Services is located in the Town Hall tent, across from the Cooper's camp store. Our Office Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

Disability Services will attempt to fill your requests for basic accommodations and services. We can better do so if you contact us in advance, so please use our Registration form to alert us to your needs before Pennsic begins. Camping space and certain services are limited and we can not guarantee they will be available if you do not pre-register.

Services include:

Please note that Pennsic is a primitive camping event and access to modern facilities is limited. For example, power outages can occur at Pennsic, so a constant supply of electricity cannot be guaranteed. Pennsic does not supply extension cords, water hoses, manpower to set up tents, or batteries; you must provide your own.

We look forward to seeing you at War!

Register for the Disabilities Camping Area

Camping in the Disabilities Camping Area is limited to individuals with a disability and those persons camping in the same tent. RV's are not permitted in the Disabilities Camping Area. Electrical outlets are nearby for recharging of medical devices and scooters. (See the Electric Recharging section for more specific information.)

To request space in the Disability Camp, you must

When we assign space in the Diabilities Camping area, we start with those who have pre-registered with both Disability Services and Cooper's Lake Campground. If Disability Services does not receive your request, we will not search you out, and you should not assume there will be camping space for you.

Disability Campers' Yahoo Group

Please join our e-mail discussion group at groups.yahoo.com/group/pennsicdisabilitycamp. Campers can use the group to communicate with each other, organize the camp, and otherwise prepare for Pennsic.

Disability Services

Sign Language Interpeters

In past years, most individuals requesting interpreters have made their own arrangements, and interpreters contacted Disability Services to let us know when they were interpreting specific Courts and classes. To our knowledge, no additional requests for interpreters were made by hearing impaired/deaf gentles. If this arrangement is working fine, we have no wish to change it. However, we would like to hear from the individuals involved to determine if the services provided were sufficient.

We encourage interpreters who wish to volunteer their services to contact Disability Services with their availability (e-mail before July 15th, or visit us at Disability Point in Town Hall). On-site contact information should include: Name, Block Number, Nearest Intersection, and Group Name.

Gentles who are Deaf or Hearing Impaired and wish to request interpreting services are also invited to contact Disability Services, providing the above information. If possible, requests and arrangement for services will be matched prior to Pennsic.

Transportation / Mobility Assistance

This year, Mobility Assistance will be handled by Disability Services.

The golf carts are intended to assist those with mobility needs. We encourage those who are able-bodied to either walk or use the buses, so the carts are available for those who need assistance.

If you would like to volunteer to drive the Mobility Assistance Cart please go to the Watch tent to meet with the Transportation Coordinator, fill out a waiver and select a shift.

Handicapped Parking

Handicapped parking is available in designated areas.

Service Animals

Pets are not allowed at Pennsic. Fully trained ADA qualifying service animals are permitted. Federal Guidelines for Service Animals have changed: please see this ADA Factsheet for an update.

Gentles with service animals are not required to camp with Disability Camping.

All service animals must be checked-in at Troll by the Service Animal Liaison.

Please fill out a Disability Services request form prior to Pennsic to help speed your check-in when you arrive.

At Pennsic:

Handicapped-accessible Porta-john Placement

There are handicapped-accessible facilities in various locations around Pennsic. At Pennsic, Disability Services can tell you the location of the nearest handicapped-accessible porta-john to your campsite, class, battle, merchant, or activity.

You may request to have one placed near your campsite. These requests must be submitted every year, since the Handicapped-accessible Porta-johns are assigned new locations based on the requests we receive. Please do not assume that one located near you last year will be there again this year.

Porta-johns are placed before the first weekend of Pennsic, so please submit your Request form PRIOR to July 15.

Electric Recharging / Scooters

Information on local Scooter Rental companies is available from Disability Services.
