Disability Services Coordinator

The Pennsic Staff welcomes the participation of those gentles with disabilities.
Disability Services is located in the
Town Hall tent,
across from the Cooper's camp store.
We will have office hours starting at noon on Saturday, July 26, and each day thereafter from 9:00 am to 5:00
pm. We will close at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 8.
Please remember this is a primitive campsite and access to services is limited. Requests have tripled over the last few
years and we try to accommodate your needs to the best of our abilities.
If you have a problem, come to Disability Point and we will assist you to the best of our ability. If you have some free time,
come and volunteer. We will allow you to charge your cell phone while you are with us!
Services available through Disability Services include:
Camping in the Disabilities Camping Area is limited to disabled individuals and those persons camping in the same tents as them.
RV's and Campers are not permitted in the Disabilities Camping Area, but there are a limited number of electrical outlets to use for essential medical devices.
Registering for the Disabilities Camping Area
To camp in the Disabilities Camping Area you must have
Submitted a Disabilities Camping form by June 1, 2014 in order to have camping space allocated for you.
Pre-registered for Pennsic with Cooper's Lake Campground by June 16, 2014
When you receive confirmation from the Disability Services Coordinator, you may list
"Disabilities Camping" on your Pennsic pre-registration as the group you are camping with.
(If you have already registered with the Coopers,
update your registration to have "Disabilities Camping" as the group.)
Please note that unless you have completed both pre-registrations and received confirmation, you are not guaranteed space in the Disability Camping Area.

Medical Device / Scooter Recharging
If you will not be camping in the Disabilities Camping Area (or other areas with electricity) and need power to recharge scooters or
batteries for medically necessary devices, please read below:
Electrical charging for scooters and medical devices will be available at 4 different locations around Pennsic.
To make sure you can be scheduled for charging time, pre-register your medical device or scooter before July 9th.
To use the recharging area,
you must come to Disability Services on-site to obtain an official recharging tag and your charging time.
It is your responsibility to provide cords and chargers.
Please remember that power outages do occur during Pennsic, so a constant electrical supply cannot be guaranteed.

Handicapped-accessible Porta-john Placement
There are a limited number of accessible porta-john units, many of which will be placed in heavily traveled areas.
If you will not be camping in the Disabilities Camping Area and need one of these units near your campsite,
please submit your request
by July 9th
so that we can try to honor your request.
All service animals must be checked-in at Troll by the Service Animal Liaison; no exceptions.
The Liaison will be available from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm; please plan to arrive during these hours.
Service animals – as defined by the ADA – are permitted at Pennsic. Pets are not.
The Federal laws about Service Animals have recently changed: please see
the ADA Fact Sheet.
Animals that do not meet these guidelines will not be allowed on site.
Service animal owners are responsible for picking up and properly disposing of the animals' waste.
Service animal owners are responsible for their animal's behavior at all times.
Please fill out a Service Animal Registration form prior to July 9 to help speed
your check-in when you arrive.
The information requested at check-in is designed to help us make the experience as smooth and safe as possible for you and
Gentles with service animals are
not required to camp with Disability Camping.
Other facilities / utilities Handicapped Parking Area
Handicapped parking is available in designated areas.
To park in these areas, you are required to have a valid state/provincial disabilities plate or hang tag on your vehicle.
Temporarily disabled individuals (i.e. a person on crutches) can see Disability Services for
a disability label to attach to your vehicle's Pennsic hang tag.
There will be NO Medical Waivers issued. All vehicles must be parked in either Handicapped Parking or regular parking. No Exceptions!!!!
Transportation / D.A.R.T.
Transportation around Pennsic is provided by school buses on set routes. There will be a limited number of Disability Assistance Road Transport
(D.A.R.T.) carts following the bus routes to assist individuals
who are unable to use the buses.
These carts, labeled with the International Sign for Handicap Assistance,
will pick up passengers at each bus stop, at the Watch tent and at the Town Hall, and drop off at the nearest bus stop to your destination.
PLEASE NOTE-There are no prearranged rides, no point-to-point transit and no calling a cart to come pick up an individual.
Sign Language Interpeters
We would like to pursue coordinating sign language interpreting at classes & courts for the hearing-impaired.
Please contact Disability Services at Pennsic if you are interested in assisting with or if you have need of these services.
