Thrown Weapons & Atl-atl
Lady Serafina Della Torre
Thrown Weapons Technical Consultant
THL Eadgyth aet Staeningum
So that all throwers from all kingdoms can participate, we will be using the
Society Thrown Weapon Rules rather
than rules of the Middle, East, or Æthelmearc.
Footwear is required for throwing on the range. Soles of feet must be covered.
Close-toed shoes are encouraged but open toed shoes/sandals are acceptable.
The Thrown Weapons and Atl-atl ranges are located on the east side of the Battlefield, just to the right beyond the Fort.
The range can be open if a minimum of two adults, one being a TW marshal, are present on the range. We have a flag system
to show the range status: the
green flag signifies the range is open. The red flag signifies that the Atl-atl range
is open. If no flags are flying during normal operating hours, the range is closed (likely due to weather or terrain condition making
the ranges unsafe).
If you are available to help with set up, your assistance will be greatly appreciated. The old adage, "Many hands make light work" is very true for range setup.
The more help we have, the faster the range can open up for throwing.
Monday, July 31 – Tuesday, Aug. 1: 9 am to noon RANGE SETUP
Wednesday, August 2 – Thursday, Aug. 10: OPEN 9 am to 5 pm
Friday, August 11: RANGE BREAKDOWN 11:30 am, immediately after the closing meeting
This year we have Activities two Thrown Weapons War Points:
Populace Thrown War Point
This War Point is open to everyone able to throw, and the range will be open for scoring all week.
Details of the competition and scoring will be posted soon.
Thrown Weapons Champions' War Point
Thursday, August 10th.

Known World Thrown Weapons Marshals' Meetings
Opening Meeting - Saturday, Aug 5: 4:00 - 5:30 pm
We will go over range rules, schedule of events and any other topics we might need to discuss.
Closing Meeting - Friday, Aug 11: 10:30 - 11:30 am
Includes putting our heads together for improvements or innovations for next year.
All marshals are asked to please stay for break down and clean up of the range after the meeting.
As long as the range etiquette and range rules are followed, everyone age 5 and over
will be allowed to throw.
Youths of less than 12 years of age will need to bring a parent or guardian with them to
the range. The parent or guardian will have to stay with them while they are at the range.
For youths 12 and over, the parent or guardian must accompany them and sign a consent
form which will be kept on record throughout Pennsic.
Special youth classes and tournaments will be held during War – please check the
schedule for times and dates.
Marshals are needed to run all of our ranges throughout Pennsic.
Help from Marshals-In-Training (MITs) is encouraged, and a quick way to put in your time.
The Middle and the East are planning classes on marshaling thrown weapons.
Check the thrown weapons range to see if your kingdom is participating in MIT classes. Marshals & Teaching
The marshals are always willing to teach new people to throw.
There is a small "teaching" range available for classes and teaching only. If a contest is in progress, this range
can be used to teach beginners.
Classes meet on the Thrown Weapons Range and in the Thrown Weapons class tent.
