Rapier Inspection Point: Hours, Stickers, and Volunteer Information
Greetings from your friendly local Rapier Minister of the List (MOL)! My job is to get all of our authorized fencers onto the tournament and melee fields with efficiency and clear communication, but also adhering to the rules set out to us by Kingdom and Society.
With that being said, here’s how Rapier Inspection Point is going to work this year (hint: it’s the same as last year!):
The first step of getting on the field is to visit the Rapier MOL Tent located next to the Rapier Marshal Tent with your fencing mask/helm, your proof of authorization (physical or virtual), and your Pennsic medallion. Once we have verified that you are an authorized fencer in your kingdom and have trolled into site, your mask or helm will get an Inspection Sticker. Each time you are inspected, the marshals will confirm that you have an Inspection Sticker. This means you only need to show your authorization once at the beginning of war, and you can receive this sticker without being fully armored and ready to fight.
You must come see the MOL tent before you do any inspections or fighting, as you cannot pass inspection without a sticker on your mask.
For more information on the rules for Rapier please visit Pennsic 53 Rapier Conventions.
When is the Rapier MOL tent open?
Generally, the Rapier Ministers of the List will be available anytime the Rapier Marshal Tent is staffed. We will not close the tent during the battles prior to Friday August 7th because we know there is a significant number of rapier fighters who do not fight in the melees who may want to get their inspection process started for tournaments. Additionally, we will be open an hour early at 8am on middle Saturday, Sunday, and War Week Monday (August 1-3).
There will not be an MOL present down at the fort for La Rochelle so please make sure you stop by for your sticker before trekking down to the field Saturday morning.
Wednesday, July 29 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Thursday, July 30 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Friday, July 31 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Saturday, August 1 – 8:00am – 4:00pm
Sunday, August 2 – 8:00am – 4:00pm
Monday, August 3 – 8:00am – 4:00pm
Tuesday, August 4 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Wednesday, August 5 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Thursday, August 6 – 9:00am – 4:00pm
Friday, August 7 – 9:00am – the start of the last melee battle
Finally, how can you help?
I know there are a million opportunities for you to volunteer at Pennsic, so let me offer you one more. The Rapier MOL tent is open for 70 hours of the war and we typically have 1-3 volunteers checking authorization cards and stickering helms. Since there is always a warranted Minister of the List present, anyone can volunteer to hang out with us for a few hours and help check cards.
You’re guaranteed shade, water, and the best view of the tourney fields (Really! Fighters aren’t allowed to block our view). Before or during the war, feel free to add your name into the volunteer spreadsheet and help me get our armies onto the field for battle.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered with me last year and I can’t wait to join you on the Rapier Field again this year.
Yours in Service,
THLady Elinor Walden of Æthelmearc
