The Pennsic War

Designed as a Medieval "War" between the Kingdoms of the East and the Middle of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Pennsic is also the largest SCA event, with activities include large melee battles, tournaments, archery, stage performances, dancing, and hundreds of classes on medieval topics.

THING 2.0 GRAND OPENING!

Greetings from the Pennsic University team! Even though the snow lies thick on the ground still, and the heat of Pennsic is months away, our team has been hard at work. The developers have been working since last Pennsic to incorporate many of the suggestions we received for improving Thing. Because of the many updates to Thing—and because some teachers asked for it—we will host a Google Meet on Sunday, March 15, to demonstrate new features, including a person-centered, accessible, mobile-friendly interface, and answer questions for teachers. The meeting will be recorded and made available for those unable to attend on Sunday.

If we are ready before March 15, we will open Thing for class submission early for those who are comfortable entering schedules and classes without additional support. However, we’ll begin answering questions and providing support after the meeting on the 15th. Additionally, depending on the response, we may hold more online support sessions. The link for Sunday the 15th is:

Mayor's Office, March 2025

The snows are retreating (yeah I know, never trust April) and the temperatures are rising. If you close your eyes you can already smell the campfires and the cooking and hear….. Well what do you hear?

My first SCA event was Pennsic 35. I knew nothing, and aside from my companion, no one. I was in “garb”, sort of. Pictures are well hidden. But I haven’t missed a Pennsic since. One of the things that kept me coming back was the music. It was everywhere. You literally walked from one music bubble into the other. In time I played some myself here and there.

Alas, slowly the music has had less and less of a presence in Pennsic public life, and for years I promised myself that if I ever became Mayor, I would try to bring some of that spark back. And here we are. A plan has been hatched to bring more music to the stage utilizing the Amphitheater by the store. A fine team of volunteers, consisting of His Excellency, Master Sylvannus the Drummer, Master Donovan the Drummer (OL), and the Lovely Audrey have been assembled to put together an entertainment schedule and coordinate the events.

Look for forthcoming information from the Music Team!

Musicians!

A reminder that the Pennsic Pile is available for download.

The Pennsic Pile 51A is a collection of 130 pages of sheet music for European dances. A huge thank to Master Albrecht Catsprey for editing the current version. And a thank you to all the arrangers and proof readers that volunteered their time in this project!

The Pile will be the source of European dance music for Pennsic 53.

This is the same version that was used for Pennsic 52.
