Greetings from your Siege Marshal in Charge for Pennsic 53,
The Siege Tent will be in a new location this year, refer to the map below. You can find us at the intersection of Edward’s Egress and Devon’s Road. We will be next to the Youth Fighting Lists and the Combat Archery Tent.
Siege inspections will be open from 1pm to 5pm at the Siege Tent Friday, July 31, Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2. Please refer to the Pennsic 53 Siege Conventions for what to expect.
Siege Crews will be allowed to use a vehicle to drop off engines for inspection. Please do not plan to leave the vehicle on the field while you assemble the engine. I have been working with the Deputy Mayor for Martial Activities to set some reasonable accommodations for crews to bring engines to the field.
- When or before you arrive at the field, send someone up to the Siege Tent to retrieve a Battlefield Parking Pass. The pass must be displayed while on the battlefield.
- Vehicles will enter via the Battlefield Gate, travel up Agincourt, turn right onto Edward’s Egress. The Siege Tent is at the intersection of Edward’s Egress and Devon’s Road. Pull entirely off the road being mindful of the Youth Fighting Fields next to us. To exit, travel toward the Registration Building on Devon’s Road and choose your exit onto Currie Road. (Map below)
- I will be at the siege tent at noon on inspection days if crews need extra time to drop off their engines and ammunition and then park their vehicle. No inspections will take place until 1pm, but I will be there to keep an eye on any unattended equipment while crews park.
- No vehicle movement permitted along the battlefield during battles, Opening or Closing Ceremonies, or other active battlefield use. We should be mostly unaffected by this Friday and Saturday. Sunday please be aware of the Champions Battles and do not travel past Edwards Egress toward the castle with a vehicle.
- Access is for loading, unloading, and reasonable setup needs, not general parking.
- Vehicles should remain south of the siege area and out of the main battlefield sightline whenever possible.
- Drivers must move promptly if asked by Battlefield staff, Watch, EMS, or another appropriate official. When in doubt, give grace.
When you are at inspection, I will be collecting if and when you predict you will need vehicle access to retrieve your engines. If your plans change after you tell me at inspections, please let me know as soon as you become aware of them. I will be on the field every day where there is siege in a battle, or you can email me at siege@aethelmearc.org to let me know.
We will be able to offer siege authorizations during Siege Inspections with the following stipulations:
- Authorizations must be arranged ahead of time. We will not be able to offer walk-up service. Contact me and your kingdom siege marshal as soon as you know you would like to try to authorize and no later than 5pm on Saturday, August 1.
- There must be a siege marshal from your kingdom present, but should extenuating circumstances present themselves, we will do our best to accommodate.
- If it is a primary authorization, you will need to be in full armor and have a heavy marshal from your kingdom present. If it is a secondary authorization (proof required), full armor is advised, but we can run the authorization regarding proficiency and rules based on the assumption that you understand the rules of the list otherwise.
- If your kingdom does not have an electronic form for submitting authorizations, you will be responsible for providing the necessary paperwork.
